Phulkari

Phulkari, a traditional embroidery of Punjab, was done by women for women. The same floral motif was repeated on fabric to create patterns and gifted to friends and family. Thinking about the generations of women that indulged in this act as a way of building relationships and in an attempt to understand and connect to this handicraft, I recreated the motif. I used my own hair as evidence of memory.
